Zhengzhou University (abbreviated as Zhengzhou University, abbreviated as ZZU in English) is established by the People's Government of Henan Province, with its legal address at No. 100 Science Avenue, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. The school covers a total area of over 6100 acres, with the main campus located at 100 Science Avenue, the south campus located at 75 North University Road, the north campus located at 97 Culture Road, the east campus located at 40 North University Road, and the west campus located at 157 Science Avenue; Luoyang Industrial Technology Research Institute is located at No. 6 Zhoushan Avenue, Luoyang City. The school recruits students nationwide, with over 43000 full-time undergraduate students, 27000 graduate students, and more than 2100 international students from 83 countries.

Zhengzhou University is a key construction university of the national "211 Project", a "Double First Class" construction university, and a joint provincial university. The school party committee is an advanced grassroots party organization in China, and the school has been selected as one of the third batch of "National Party Building Work Demonstration Universities" by the Ministry of Education. Standing at a new historical starting point, the school has established the positioning of a high-level comprehensive research-oriented university, focusing on the medium and long-term tasks of building a first-class university and the "221" strategy, adhering to the connotation, high quality, and sustainable development, and striving to enter the ranks of world-class universities by 2035.

Zhengzhou University's medical education originated from Zhongshan University in Henan Province in 1928. In 1952, Henan Medical College was established independently, opening the way for higher medical education in Henan Province; Zhengzhou University was founded in 1956 and was the first comprehensive university established in New China. In 1996, it became a key university under the national "211 Project"; Zhengzhou University of Technology was established in 1963, originally named Zhengzhou Institute of Technology, and renamed Zhengzhou University of Technology in 1996. It is a key university directly under the former Ministry of Chemical Industry; In July 2000, the original Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology, and Henan Medical University merged to form the new Zhengzhou University. Professor Ji Wenfu, an educator, historian, and philosopher, Professor Huo Bingquan, a physicist, Academician Zhong Xiangchong, an expert in refractory materials, Professor Sun Guoliang, an expert in civil engineering, Professor Dong Minsheng, an expert in otolaryngology, Professor Shen Qiong, the founder of esophageal cytology, Professor Su Shouyu, an expert in human parasitology, and Professor Er Yuehe, a representative figure of the Nanyang Writers Group, have all promoted literature and education here.
